چکیده

In recent years, the study of heavy quarkonia (bb̄, cc̄, ...) has gone through several theoretical and experimental advances. From the theoretical side the introduction of non-relativistic effective field theories (EFTs) of QCD has put our description of these systems on the solid ground of QCD. It has made it possible, in the case of several observables, to factorize the high-energy dynamics into matching coefficients calculable in perturbation theory and the non-perturbative QCD dynamics into few well-defined matrix elements to be fitted on the data or calculated on the lattice. Systematic improvements are possible, either calculating higher-order corrections in the coupling constant or adding higher-order operators. Heavy quarkonium, being a non-relativistic bound state, is characterized by a hierarchy of energy scales m, mv and mv, where m is the heavy-quark mass and v ≪ 1 the relative heavy-quark velocity. A hierarchy of EFTs may be constructed by systematically integrating out modes associated to these energy scales. Integrating out degrees of freedom of energy m, which for heavy quarks can be done perturbatively, leads to non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD). This EFT still contains the lower energy scales as dynamical degrees of freedom. In the last years, the problem of integrating out the remaining dynamical scales of NRQCD has been addressed by several groups and has now reached a solid level of conceptual understanding (an extended list of references can be found in). The ultimate EFT obtained by sub-

Effective field theories for heavy quarkonium

We review recent theoretical developments in heavy quarkonium physics from the point of view of Effective Field Theories of QCD. We discuss Non-Relativistic QCD and concentrate on potential Non-Relativistic QCD. Our main goal will be to derive QCD Schrödinger-like equations that govern heavy quarkonium physics in the weak and strong coupling regime. We also discuss a selected set of application...

Heavy Quarkonium Potential and inclusive decay widths in terms of Wilson loops

We briefly summarize some results obtained by potential NRQCD in the non perturbative regime: 1) a systematic procedure to obtain the heavy quarkonium potential in the 1/m expansion (with explicit expressions up to O(1/m) in terms of Wilson loops), and 2) a description of the heavy quarkonium inclusive decays to light particles, and of the NRQCD matrix elements (also the octet ones), in terms o...

Current Issues in Quarkonium Production

As a stringent test of the nonrelativistic QCD factorization approach for inclusive heavy-quarkonium production in high-energy hadron collision, the polarized heavyquarkonium production at the Tevatron is discussed. The polarization of prompt J/ψ at the Tevatron is predicted within the nonrelativistic QCD factorization framework. The contribution from radiative decays of P-wave charmonium state...

New predictions for inclusive heavy-quarkonium P-wave decays.

We show that some nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics color-octet matrix elements can be written in terms of (derivatives of) wave functions at the origin and of nonperturbative universal constants once the factorization between the soft and ultrasoft scales is achieved by using an effective field theory where only ultrasoft degrees of freedom are kept as dynamical entities. This allows us t...

Model Independent Results for Heavy Quarkonium

We review a number of results for the spectrum and inclusive decays of heavy quarkonium systems which can be derived from QCD under well controlled approximations. They essentially follow from the hierarchy of scales in these systems, which can be efficiently exploited using non-relativistic effective field theories. In particular, we discuss under which conditions non-relativistic potential mo...
